Want & Have

Whilst being ill I had gone through a big pile of my much overdue fashion magazines that I hadn’t had a chance to read for a long while. In one of them I spotted this gorgeous, gorgeousΒ Ralph Lauren’s Equestrian Saddle Bag. Even though it has a classic shape, the electric petrol blue colour (so this season, as I mentioned in this post) and the attached metal stirrup make it so different and chic and it brings to my mind the ‘great outdoors’. Sadly, I can’t actually afford it (Β£950, ekhhm), but this doesn’t mean a girl can’t dream or even better – look for an inspiration somewhere else, right?

I then remembered I inherited a bag from my mum, which she used to wear when she was my age (talk about real vintage accessories!) and, amazingly, it’s the near-exact shape as the Ralph Lauren’s beauty. I haven’t worn it for ages, but seeing that the equestrian trend is still going strong, I might take this little leather baby out soon! It may not be blue, but I really like the chestnut brown colour and the slightly distressed leather. I’ve been told it’s a genuine equestrian/hunting bag and inside it holds pockets for bullets (I presume) plus it has a small compartment for anything that may come handy whilst out horse-riding.

  • Back in the 80’s when Banana Republic was safari wear, they had gorgeous natural tan leather bags that when used daily took on a soft, natural, perfect glow. Made you feel like Meryl Streep in Out of Africa. Love the bags.

  • How cool to be able to wear something that is your mom’s and it still has the cool vintage vibe!
