My 2013 Aspirations

I was inspired by Sara's recent post, in which she shares her take on some of the 2013 aspirations, and decided to do something similar. Even though I've already listed my resolutions for this year, I thought I would 'dig deeper' and think about 'the bigger resolutions' - those, which will take time and effort, but their final results will stay with me for years to come and not only this year.

SIMPLIFY. Sara rightly points out that a cleaner, edited closet and a clutter-free house equals a peaceful mind. This year I am hoping to de-clutter my surroundings by getting rid of unwanted clothes, magazines and things I hold on to (hoping that 'one day I will use them again'). I will also aim to simplify some of my routines (more complicated doesn't necessarily mean more effective).

BE INSPIRED. This is of a great importance when you commit to writing a blog. However, it can also be difficult to stay inspired, since we're over-saturated with various content coming to us from every angle. My plan for 2013 is to go out more, explore the city with its beautiful sights, museums, galleries and cafés, and surround myself with beautiful things that will inspire me to be more creative.

BE ORIGINAL. When I was at school, I always aspired to be like the popular girls - to look and behave like them. Over the years I've been learning to develop my own personal style and what's more important - stick to it and be proud of it. So many times people have been trying to pull me down because of what I wear, eat or believe in. This year I am hoping to become more assertive in expressing my individuality and originality.

WORK HARD. I'm not a stranger to working hard and giving my very best at school and work, as this is how I was brought up. This year, however, I want to work even harder on my fitness, nutrition and general well-being. I've realised that I can dream as much as I want about being fit and healthy, but if I don't turn these dreams and wishes into hard work, then it will never happen. Stop wishing, start doing.

ENJOY. I will try and focus on two aspects: firstly, on enjoying the moment I'm in and the company I'm with as so often I drift away or get distracted by the surroundings. Not every meal and every scene of my life has to be documented on Twitter or Instagram - just enjoy what you're doing and who you're with at that time. Secondly, I will enjoy myself by letting myself go at times. I am often so critical of myself and punish myself for not being perfect all the times, and I definitely need to learn to enjoy and accept my flaws and momentary hiccups.

Feel free to share what your goals are on your blog and let me know - I will be happy to read them!

  5. I love the 'be original' goal. In this internet age it is so easy to get caught up in the trends and what everyone else is doing. We can loose a little bit of ourselves this way. I think it is great to take inspiration from others, but to do it in your own way. There is only one you... let her shine!

  9. P.S. I'm with ya, I definitely need to work on being present, as well. It's so true, not everything must be instantly posted on fb, twitter, instagram, etc. :)

  12. I completely need to "simplify" in 2013 too...and also probably should at "let go" to my list. No point in keeping negative things around, right?!
